Show 25 :: Marathon Over…
Well, we all catch our breaths in this episode with a huge (20) number of games to discuss, Zola bemoans new-owner Sullivan’s wage cut talk and of course, Mr T(erry) surrendering (we think harshly) his National Team captaincy responsibilities. Catch your breath on this Show
25.

Where to start?
Let’s start with the most recent news.
Ashley Cole out of the World Cup (maybe…) because of a challenge with Landon Donovan. These things can’t be scripted better. One wonders what would happen if say Ferdinand injured Donovan in a tackle. Unlike England, if the US loses one of their stars, it’s curtains. England are many players deep in talent, and can be fine without Cole, …but crazy game this is.
Notts County – is this a good time, right before a big FA Cup match, to be shaking up everything? Just wondering.
Yes, my tipping also is out the window with so many upsets.
Burney looked poor at the Cottage, but Bikey is a good strong player. Will he go somewhere soon?
Another question – which came to me as I was watching Zamora scream and yell at the asst ref…..why is this allowed? Forgive my footballing naivety. Isn’t there some rule about verbally thrashing out at the asst refs? Such as with Venus Williams at the US Open. Or in Baseball where you get thrown out pretty quickly. Of course we all remember Wenger walking up the steps at Old Trafford and standing in the aisle. I know that some players and coaches are “working” the refs, but when does it get to be too much? For example – there is a zero tolerance policy with the “hand to the face” in the EPL – even if there is minimal contact (Dikagcoi red card for example). When does it get to be too much whining?
Like most people, I’m have no idea who will end up atop the EPL, but after hearing your list of what Pompey has to do to stay out of relegation…there will be no great escape. I do think Hull have a chance though. Vengoor(sp?) and Altidore are starting to play well together finally. Burnley can actually look sharp and quality, but at the Cottage they looked like a League Two team…their defense often forgets how to mark a man. Wolves have just confused me after this week. Bolton….I keep waiting for Bolton to step it up, but they are running out of time.
I’m ready for some good Champions League matches.
Here are my predictions (which means bet $ the other way)
AC Milan 1 – 3 Man U (Rooney and Owen cruise)
Lyon 2 – 2 Real Madrid (Madrid look weak, but get 2 from Ronaldo)
Bayern Munuch 2 – 0 Fiorentina (my other team, the Viola are looking terrible…and no Mutu)
FC Porto 0 – 1 Arsenal (Tough away goal)
Thanks for another great show. Hopefully the FA Cup and the Champions League will not disappoint in the next few days.
Interesting comment about Zamora and treatment of Assistant Refs – FA has charged Grant for his half-time “chat” with the ref http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/8511420.stm
Interesting. Although there should be some – “You’re a Portsmouth manager, and that sucks” get out of jail free card. Really, if you are bottom of the table and your team is bankrupt, you should be verbally assaulting someone! ….well, maybe not the refs. Look forward to the next show.
