Show 28 :: No Great Shakes…

Well, to put to bed a complete beat up we see Chelsea give up a decent home record to a Jekyll and Hyde Man City and of course, Mr Bridge snubbing Mr Terry in the lineup handshakes. No great shakes in our books – just get on with the footy(!) and to City’s end, they did with a famous win, their first in many Blue Moons. Blue in colour and red in ledger, Pompey could be in Administration by the time you consume show 28 but, we hope this doesn’t incur a daft 9pt penalty – certain relegation will ensue. Common sense would see it waivered coupled with a Pompey fightback in the 8-way survival race. Common sense would also lead to your download of this Show 28.

Great show again this week. I don’t think Phil Dowd bottled the Vidic incident in the carling cup final. Dowd didn’t want to deal with the media telling him he “ruined the final”, so he found a technicality in not sending Vidic off. But yes, villa can feel hard done by. And Dowd shouldve at least given a yellow. United, having been fortunate only to be a goal down and not also a man down, outplayed villa the rest of the game.

I agree with you two: the bridge-gate affair needs to end. Enough said. Nice to see the England fans not totally jumping on terry’s back last night.

I think the point deduction is the only way to punish teams going to administration. Telling them they can’t play in Europe wouldn’t work, as these teams are almost always struggling to survive and not in European competitions (pompey in uefa cup last year was before they were in financial crisis). Financial penalties are also not going to work. Yes, sometimes a points deduction will doom a nearly-relegated team to certain relegation, but this doesn’t have to be true: look at crystal palace this year. I can’t think of any other suitable punishment.

You guys are spot on about Avram Grant: he is class, and passionate. Pompey fans are grateful that at least one person in charge is showing respect and cares about the club.

Very happy that city beat Chelsea. When you have defensive errors, Craig Bellamy is NOT the person you want to be up against (like Mark alluded to, ‘see Rio Ferdinand in the derby’).
Arsenal do have a real title chance, as their remaining schedule looks very much easier than Chelsea’s and United’s, and their reaction (and win) following the Ramsey injury was much improved over the Eduardo incident.

The Ramsey injury was gruesome (though not quite as bad as the Eduardo one), though the tackle was just poor and not malicious. Arsene is wrong about teams targeting Arsenal. Big, tough teams merely know that Arsenal are, on average, smaller and more fleet-footed so to stop the free-flowing football you need to get stuck in to Arsenal. Arsene said he ‘doesn’t believe in coincidences’, and I agree, it’s not a coincidence: Arsenal’s young, small players CAN’T RIDE TACKLES. Tackles like Shawcross’ happen lots of times in English football, and it seems that Arsenal players get injured by them more often than others do. I wish the best to Ramsey, and hope he isn’t out too long and can have Eduardo-like recovery/rehab.

Pavlyuchenko is on fire, and I believe that the problem was he wasn’t trying in training. And with an old-school manager like ‘Arry, you need to bust your balls at the training ground in order to get a look in. But Redknapp did have a bit of a xenophobic dig: in the post-match interview Redknapp talked about how good Pavlyuchenko is and how good of ‘boy’ he is, but then quipped ‘I try to have a conversation with him, but he doesn’t speak any English’. Lol. Nice one.

The miss by ‘Donovan Landon’ (lol just messing Chris) truly was shocking. Hopefully for Everton Donovan doesn’t drop his head and wimper out (the loan deal is over soon).

The talk about wasps and wasp-keeping was hilarious. That is why I love the AGOTH podcast. Cracked me up on my commute today. Another reason I love AGOTH: I learn new words. Like ‘piffling’ (I guess that’s how you spell it).
United are in a good position against Milan, but I’m still worried about the match. Like Christ said, United need to not concede in the first half hour and let the pressure build on Milan. Need to give Beckham an unhappy return to Old Trafford result-wise, but the fans will rightly show Beck the respect he deserves.

    Hey Boys,

Have missed the show lately as have joined the dark side and move to a Mac to keep the Fiance happy. Only just got back on ITUNES and updated.
Anyhow was just putting my tips in and was thinking what a great little relegation battle i’m stuck in. Obviously somebluesnow and PeterInCali are gone but the last relegation spot is going down to the wire. Just the 8 points seperating 12th to 9th. Will I survive and be allowed to join next season? THE PRESSURE!

Good show a always. As I write this, we are about 3 hours from the Man U/AC Milan kick off. Should be a cracking good game. The big news being Beckham….which leads me to Landon Donovan. He wants to stay at Everton, the fans want him to stay, as does the manager. However, if he ends up staying longer, and misses some Galaxy games, then isn’t that exactly what he yelled at Beckham for? Most USA fans think that this is great experience for Landon before the World Cup…..but maybe it’s an English plan….so that they can have a preview of his skills and weaknesses. The EPL players already know Howard and Dempsey pretty well. I’m just putting that out there.

So when I’m not following Fulham and the EPL, my team is Fiorentina. Sigh. Yes, we were robbed, but how about that Champions League match in Florence? The Viola did well, but did you see Robben’s blaster from 30 yards out? What a goal. Bayern are a solid team, especially offensively. They could trouble Chelsea, Man U or Arsenal.

Looking at the week’s fixtures, you have to think that Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, and Villa will have no problem getting three points each. Villa have two road games, but they are very winnable. Bent has used up his goal tally for this month, so Sunderland won’t be an issue.

Everton/Birmingham might be the best show. Wolves/Burnley might have the most meaning.

Although I really like Hull, I have given up on them. Other than the obvious Portsmouth, I figure Burnley and Hull will go down. However, I would not be shocked if a team went down on goal differential….which bodes well for West Ham, and to a lesser extent, Wolves.

Looking forward to the next show.

    Bradley
